A newsletter from the front lines of a Quest

It’s always a good thing to see someone who is able to live their quest. I get a newsletter from a team of two writers who are doing just that. That newsletter is ‘Copy Protégé ‘ and the two writers are Monica Day, and Krista Jones. They are two freelance writers who are discussing their journey toward their goal of being ’six figure copywriters’. They discuss their problems and their successes. They also share the lessons they learn from all their adventures. Mostly they cover writing and the trials of becoming a successful writer.

Most of their problems revolve around writing issues but they also discuss personal crisis that impact their lives. I appreciate that honesty in their newsletters. It’s not just the professional issues that get in the way of our quests. It’s the car needing a new transmission and the kids being in trouble at school issues that push us off the path. We all need the examples of people getting through life’s issues and still striving toward their goals.

If your quest involves writing or making your living from a creative skill this is a newsletter that you need to receive. I believe that you will benefit from being exposed to their excitement with their passion.

A newsletter worth getting up for

One of my personal heroes in the writing, business, and personal development fields is Michael Masterson. He is a major force behind the AWAI courses that are considered a requirement to being a freelance direct response copywriter. He has written a dozen or so books on business and personal development advice. On top of that he trains Jujitsu and keeps in shape even in his fifties. I will be reviewing some of his books later on.

He also publishes a daily newsletter called ‘Early to Rise’. I recommend this to everyone. I read it even when I don’t have time to read any others. He puts together a collection of articles on investments, business, self development, and health every day. His articles are from experts as well as himself. Considering the newsletter is free, it is an amazing bargain.

Sign up and take a look. I believe that you will find the articles interesting and valuable. He has a talent for business advice. He is someone who has lived his quest well.

Charting the path between not having and having

There are explorers is every area that lead the rest of us along the uncharted path. Two of these people in the self development area are Heather Vale and Berry Goss. They do a great job of seeking out interesting experts and publicizing their work. They release this information to the world through several blogs and membership sites. I am a member of their ‘Masters of The Secret’ site.

This week they have a great post titled ‘Your View of Life – our most important blog post ever !’. They discuss how your view of life determines what you get out of life. I don’t think that anyone who reads this blog would argue with that but we all know how difficult it can be to implement that simple philosophy. They propose the answer is in the short phrase ‘ BE-DO-HAVE’. It shows the route to having. First you be the thing you want. You start thinking like the successful what ever you want to be. It doesn’t have to be an overnight transformation but you have to start somewhere. You then start doing the things that person would do. You just start asking yourself what would a successful whatever be doing now. Most likely it’s not playing another game of solitaire. And it doesn’t require that you have all the resources either. Try the question ‘What would a successful whatever do to get back on top if he was in my situation?’. Start taking those actions. Ideally at this point you would start getting some of the rewards that person would be getting. In the real world it might take a while to get those rewards, but they are on the way. The advantage of this plan is that it gets you moving toward the goal of your quest. This is the reverse of the ‘HAVE-BE-DO’ plan. An example of that plan is ‘Once I get the million dollars, I’ll start investing and I’ll finally be a successful investor.’. You have to start somewhere and the best place is where you are. Surprisingly the best time is now. So get started. Your quest is calling.

Also take a look at Heather and Berry’s blogs. They are worth a look. They also have a library of audio interviews, but you have to be a subscriber to get most of them. If you are serious about the manifestation and self development area I recommend that you pony up the cash. I did and discovered a lot of really good information.

Some basic guidance for reaching financial quests

I’ve started reading Loral Langemeier’s ‘Cash Machine For Life’. I like her attitude and the simplicity of her advice. I read her earlier book ‘The Millionaire Maker’ and thought it made a lot of sense. Her new book appears to build on the advice in the earlier one. Her basic idea is to do a careful analysis of your situation and then work with her system to get you to your financial goals. She’s not the ordinary financial planner. Unlike a lot of other financial planners, she is very entrepreneurial. She’s not someone who says save 100 dollars a month in a mutual fund and in the far future you’ll retire with a million. She doesn’t think that anyone should have to wait thirty years to be financially independent. Her advice is to develop businesses that get you the money you need. So, if you want to invest your way to wealth, she is not the adviser for you. She expects you to work for your money. She takes some of the scariness of creating businesses by calling them cash machines. She starts you out with putting together an easy small business and then works you up to bigger ones. She doesn’t suggest you stress over finding the perfect business either. For the first one, she says look at your skills and figure out the fastest way to make money. Your ultimate businesses might be your quest business, but she wants you to first get experience and make money fast. As you learn and get some capital then you can make some dreams happen.

I like that attitude. Getting to your quest is a journey. Loral gives you good advice on getting on the right path. She also has the expected training courses and coaching at her web site if you want more help. Taking action and getting some early success is key to finding your quest.

Is Serial Killing just a Hobby or is it a way of Life?

I’ve been watching Dexter on Showtime since it began last year. It’s a fun series that is in it’s second season. The first season was great and this one is looking even better. If you haven’t seen it you need to. The story is a little dark but very involving. Dexter is the story of a blood spatter forensic investigator in the Miami police force. That would be enough for most crime stories but Dexter is a little different. Dexter’s quest is being a serial killer and he’s very good at it. This would usually make him the villain but he’s the hero here. He has a code for selecting victims and a careful method of killing. The code is that he only kills criminals who have escaped the normal justice system. He only culls the most wicked ones. Surprisingly, this is only a subplot with the main one being his internal and external struggle to blend in and stay concealed in a world where he is very very different. He’s the outsider with a dark secret who must blend in or go to jail. Because everyone has been in that position of needing to fit in, Dexter is a very appealing character. On top of this there is a good collection of other really interesting characters with their own problems and directions. This gives the series a great number of intertwined plots. The whole show plays really well. You should definitely check it out when you get a chance. (The first season is available on DVD now)

Dexter knows his quest however and it drives him. Even though few people share his passion, (Thank Goodness) he is in the enviable position of knowing exactly what his passion is. Most of us in the real world have hidden our passion away and are afraid to face it. So I challenge you to dig a little deeper and at least explore the edges of your dreams.
