Yea, it’s New Years again. This is the time when we all put together New Year’s Resolutions. They normally last a month and then we forget about them. But what if you didn’t forget about them? What would the end of next year be like? Would you be closer to completing your quest? Chose your resolutions wisely.
I think that people forget their resolutions because the resolutions they choose don’t really mean anything to them. Yes, it would be nice to lose some weight, or get in shape, or save some money. But what does that really mean to you? All those resolutions mean that you plan on depriving yourself of something. You are going to eat less, or work out more, or not spend as much money. There’s no fire in those goals. If you want to keep on track then pick something that makes your eyes light up when you think about it. Pick something that connects with your passion. Your quest is calling.
I just got the latest copy of the “The Golden Thread” newsletter. It’s the one from the American Writers and Artists Institute. They have a great article by Michael Masterson, a personal hero of mine, titled “Your ‘Super-Sized’ Goal for 2008”. In the article he talks about a goal he set last year to write a poem every day for 2007. He wrote 365 poems and of those he had 100 that were publishable. It was a large goal but one that got him closer to his quest of being recognized as a poetry author. He suggests in the article that you chose a large goal to get you closer to your dreams.
He’s right. Think about it. What could you do every day to get you closer to your dreams? You could read one article a day on your passion. By doing that you would stay fired up and on track. Then at the end of that year you would be well on your way to being an expert in the field. It could happen. And even better, it could happen to you.
Grab the reins and steer toward your quest. It doesn’t take a leap. Small steps will still get you there. Take a step to being closer to your quest.
