Make Sure You Know the Job Requirements First

Rules for Renegades is a collection of Christine Comaford-Lynch’s advice for those people seeking business success. She explains the advice with stories from her life. She is a very ambitious woman who pursues her quest with a passion. One of her business ideas that she discusses was to open Japanese Geisha classes in America. She figured that that it might be something that American young women would be interested in. After all, it is somewhat of a profession in Japan. Maybe it could be here too. She worked hard to learn the details of this Japanese art. However after she got well into the training she discovered a small problem. It turned out that Geishas are supported by wealthy sponsors. In order to keep the sponsors interested, sexual favors are usually exchanged. She was crushed by this revelation. Even though this arrangement was accepted in Japan, it would be questionable in America. The plan fell though as a business idea. So, when you are working on your quest, do some research first. You won’t be able to see all the obstacles but the research might keep you away from the biggest rocks in the river.

What does this Cat know about Quests?

The cartoon in this post follows the adventures of a small cat on the quest for breakfast. It’s a great cartoon and it makes me laugh every time I play it. So, you can take it as just another entertaining youtube video or if you look a little deeper there may be a lesson or two for the quest seeker. First of all that cat knows where it wants to go and how to get there. The cat is hungry and it knows the man is the key to getting that solved. You need to know what you are pursuing in your quest. Is it wealth? Do you need a million dollars? (most of us could find a use for that) Or is it just getting out from under your slave driving boss? Finding a new job could be easier than getting the million dollars. It would be faster too. So, you need to know what your quest really is. The cat is also persistent. He faces obstacles but continues until he gets an answer. That’s another one of the secrets of finding your quest. Face it, it’s not going to be easy. Some things may be but you are going to face some problems. You need to be able to find answers to get you through them. Like the cat you may need to think outside the box. Sometimes way out of the box. But in any case, enjoy the video. It’s a treasure. I hope to see some more from this guy.

Wild monkeys attacking – can you defend yourself?

A recent news item in MSN Slate reported that the deputy mayor of New Delhi, India, was attacked by a gang of wild monkeys. He was on his balcony and during the melee he fell to his death. New Delhi has about ten thousand wild monkeys that roam through the town and sometimes attack people. I have heard about monkeys attacking people in wild areas but this is the first time I have heard of it occurring in a large city.

The article suggests that this usually happens because the monkeys believe the person has food. If this is true they suggest throwing the food at the monkeys and backing away slowly. If the person does not have food, they suggest showing the monkeys opened hands and still backing away slowly. Restraint is the key, you should avoid aggressive eye contact and don’t show your teeth when you smile. If pressed monkeys will bite and some carry disease. They are not the friendly creatures you see in the jungle movies.

You may think that you will never run across a band of angry monkeys. One never knows. However when you are pursuing your quest, you may run across just such obstacles. Friends, relatives, and even strangers may feel the need to protect you from your delusions. If they themselves have not accomplished similar things they may discourage your efforts. Brian Tracy suggests that you protect your fledgling goals and ideas from these people. Don’t share your ideas with people who cannot understand and appreciate them. It sounds cold but most people have never pursued a quest or passion. They followed the common path of a nine to five work day and spending their nights distracted by cable TV. They chose the safe path and would encourage you to do the same. So don’t be dragged away from your quest, stay away from the wild monkeys.

Remembering Your Greatness

Today I went on a job interview. It was very standard and I wasn’t at all sure of getting the job. However, I discovered something else while I was there. I had a chance to be reminded of some of the progress I’ve made on my Quest. The interviewer asked about what I had done while I was out of work. While I was job hunting I explored some options that I had always wanted to. I started explaining what I had accomplished and tried to high light the skills I had used during those projects. After the interview ended I was driving home and suddenly it hit me. I had done some impressive things during my job free period. True, I still needed a day job to tide me over. Even so, I had put together some web businesses, started a writing business, created some blogs, gotten paying customers, and gotten a good grasp on the next direction my life should take. I was proud of my efforts and a little impressed. I’d done better than I thought I did. It was very ego building. I just did those things and didn’t relate how they looked. I think that this is true of everyone. You just do and don’t look at the score much. Sit down sometimes and look at your history. You are greater than you give yourself credit for. Feed your confidence a little by seeing your strengths. It will make your next step on your Quest easier and your results better.

Joe Vitale Finds Answer to Urban Legend in Hawaii

I am a fan of Joe Vitale. I admit that first. I’ve read a lot of his stuff and feel that I have a rough understanding of the man. If you have never been introduced to him, the key thing to know is that he is a marketer and promoter to his very core. I often see reviews of his work and the most common criticism is that he uses his writing to promote himself, or a product, or a friend’s product. They just don’t know Joe. Joe is a hard core marketer and sales guy. He has the money to prove it. He cannot write anything without that part of his personality coming forth. If that was all that the man had it would be pointless to read much of his stuff. However beyond that Joe is an intellectual adventurer. He’s a long time student of the mind and self development. He is always involved in something interesting. He’s well on his way to reaching his Quest. That’s the reason I like Joe. He always runs into interesting stuff and puts it into books and articles. That’s why I read his books.

This is Joe’s introduction to the Hawaiian philosophy of Ho’oponopono. It’s not a very deep exploration but it shows a side of a little known philosophy. This all started from an urban legion that Joe ran across. The legion went that in a mental institution in Hawaii a strange therapy was used that healed most of patents and pretty much closed the institution. What made the therapy strange was that the doctor using it did not see any of the patents or deal with them personally. He sat in his office and mediated to heal them. Well, that was a pretty wild story and most people would have ignored it as fantasy. Joe looked into it and discovered that it happened about like that. That started Joe on a quest to meet the doctor and learn how he did it.

The doctor, Ihaleakala Hew Len, was still alive and teaching seminars in Hawaii. So, Joe went to the islands and started his study of this philosophy. This book chronicles his studies. The book covers a lot of his meetings with the doctor but mainly highlights two of the basic ideas.

The main thought that the book promotes is the idea that you are part of everything you see and experience. You cause pretty much all of your world. Everyone you see that is acting crazy or stupid is the result of your craziness or stupidity. That’s a heavy burden for anyone to undertake. It would be overwhelming to the max if not for the second idea discussed in the book.

The second idea is that even though all the world’s issues are the result of your subconscious, you can resolve them by using a form of mediation. This is the way the doctor cured the crazes at the institution. Basically you chant to yourself to heal your issues and by healing that part of yourself you are healing everyone else. I’ve been trying it myself and I have to say people do seem to be better around me. In any case it works much better than cursing the crazes you meet under your breath. So, I feel better anyway.

I liked the book and would recommend you add it to your self help library. It won’t make you a master of the philosophy but will give you an interesting view of it. I think that you learn enough to try a little of it out. It may be a another step to reaching your quest. I found more on the Internet about it by other authors. Joe’s is not the only book about it. And of course if you want to know a lot more, Joe and the doctor have collaborated on a CD course that Joe will be glad to sell you.
